Candidates effectively manage digital tools and resources within the context of student learning experiences. (PSC 3.2/ISTE 3b)
Artifact: EverFi Online Learning Platform
Reflection:
The artifact “EverFi Online Learning Platform” was used throughout this past school year in my Economics classes. Students interacted with a set of online simulations and took various assessments that were embedded in the platform. My students were engaged in utilizing the Financial Literacy course throughout the last month of each semester this past school year.
The element of Managing Digital Tools and Resources under the Standard of Digital Learning Environments was mastered with this artifact in several different ways. Students were engaged in utilizing the EverFi online platform to learn about financial literacy in my class. We spent at least six class periods in the computer lab each semester so that students could work on their course. I spent my time monitoring their computer usage and doing basic troubleshooting on issues that came up during their work on the platform. When I was unable to resolve issues through my own online dashboard, I contacted my service representative to find an answer. Through my online dashboard, I was able to monitor student progress, reset passwords, and override grades if there were issues within the programming itself.
While using this artifact, I learned a great deal about managing digital tools and resources. I have been looking for engaged learning experiences for Economics for several years. These are more difficult to find than projects on United States History or World History. While my students worked through the EverFi Financial Literacy course, I was tasked with managing their experience. There were a variety of issues that we came across as students worked. Some of these were things that I could resolve myself, but others required assistance from technical support. For this artifact, I would change our experience with EverFi to increase the time spent on the course. Instead of cramming it into one month, I would like to take a day or two per month throughout the semester for students to work on the modules.
The work that went into using this artifact will impact student learning as I am better equipped to manage digital tools and resources now. I understand how to resolve simple technical issues, and I am confident in my ability to adequately describe unresolvable issues to technical support. This impact can be measured by evaluating how well I handle upcoming digital tools and resources.
